First Aid for Young People — Pauline Bartley — Online Event — 13th August 2026

Jul 30, 2026

At B‑Skill, we’re committed to helping young people, apprentices, employers, and communities build the knowledge and confidence needed to respond safely in challenging situations. That’s why we’re delighted to invite you to our FREE online event - First Aid for Young People — A Conversation for Apprentices, Employers & the Public: Supporting Self, Getting Help, and Mental Health Support.

This accessible session features Pauline Bartley, Project Manager for St John Ambulance Young Responders. Pauline will share practical guidance on basic first aid and emergency response, focusing on real-life situations young people may face, including spiking and catastrophic bleeding.

The discussion will also explore how to stay safe, when to seek urgent help, how everyday items can be used to help sustain life while waiting for assistance, and where to access mental health support following a traumatic situation.

Why this event matters

Emergencies can happen in schools, workplaces, communities, social settings, and public spaces. In these moments, having the confidence to act quickly and safely can make a significant difference.

Many people may feel unsure about what to do when someone is seriously injured, affected by spiking, or experiencing a mental health crisis. This session is designed to make first aid guidance practical, accessible, and relevant to everyday situations.

The event will explore:

  • Supporting yourself safely during an emergency
  • Recognising when urgent help is needed
  • Calling emergency services and communicating clearly
  • Responding to spiking-related concerns
  • Recognising and responding to catastrophic bleeding
  • Using everyday items to help sustain life while waiting for support
  • Finding mental health support after a traumatic event

What you’ll learn

During the session, attendees will gain insight into:

  • How to support themselves safely during an emergency
  • When and how to seek help from emergency services
  • Basic first aid responses for situations young people may encounter
  • How to respond to spiking-related incidents
  • How to recognise and respond to catastrophic bleeding
  • How everyday items may be used to provide urgent support
  • Where and when to access mental health support after trauma
  • Practical actions that can be shared with colleagues, learners, friends, and community members
  • The opportunity to ask questions during the live session

The session will be suitable for beginners and anyone with limited first aid experience. The focus will be on building practical confidence rather than providing complicated or heavily technical instruction.

Who this is for

This event is ideal for:

  • B‑Skill apprentices and other youth work trainees
  • Employers and apprenticeship supervisors
  • HR and management staff
  • Educators and youth practitioners
  • Schools, colleges, and training providers
