Level 2 Certificate in Womens Hairdressing

COURSE OVERVIEW

The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Women’s Hairdressing is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a junior hairdresser/stylist. This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years or over and will support you to gain employment as a junior hairdresser/stylist, as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role. Entry onto this qualification can be via previous achievement of a Level 1 qualification in hairdressing and/or a successful skills test and interview.

This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a hairdresser/stylist including the mandatory units which include, working in the hair industry, health and safety, client consultation, shampoo and conditioning hair, cutting women’s hair and the art of dressing hair.

You will also have the opportunity to further develop your understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include, colouring and lightening hair, reception duties, scalp massage services, perming hair, plaiting and twisting hair and others.

Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of anatomy, health and safety, client consultation, and products, tools and equipment. You will also develop a range of technical skills enabling you to effectively consult with clients, shampoo and condition, and cut and finish their hair. You will also develop interpersonal skills, which will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.

PRIMARY OUTCOME

The primary outcome of the VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Women’s Hairdressing is to prepare you to enter the specific sector of hairdressing as a junior hairdresser/stylist. All the units in this qualification relate directly to the specific job role of a junior hairdresser/stylist.

WHAT COULD THIS QUALIFICATION LEAD TO?

This qualification will prepare you for employment as a junior hairdresser/stylist. You will also be eligible to join the professional trade body, the Hairdressing Council as a graduate registered hairdresser. Career opportunities as a hairdresser/stylist exist in a variety of contexts, including:

– Commercial salon
– Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings

Whilst this qualification’s primary purpose is to prepare you for employment, you may choose to further develop your skill base by undertaking specialist qualifications at Level 3, including:

– VTCT Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
– VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing
– VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies

This qualification forms part of a suite of VTCT Level 2 hairdressing qualifications alongside:

– VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing (472 GLH)
– VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing (448 GLH)
– VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing Studies (361 GLH)

At 283 GLH this qualification is the smallest of the suite and covers the fewest number of units which means that whilst qualified, you will have a limited skillset. This is ideal if you are considering a career as a junior hairdresser/stylist since you will be provided with the basic skills for employment.
