Apprenticeship Overview

A work based learning programme in Supply chain Warehousing is suitable for colleagues wanting to improve their knowledge and skills to progress and open up further career opportunities within the organisation.

Warehouse Operatives work in a variety of warehouse environments. Work activities include taking deliveries, checking for damaged/missing items, storing goods, moving stock by various methods, picking/packing orders, loading goods for dispatch, maintaining stock records and documentation, and cleaning. They are required to safely use a range of equipment, machinery and vehicles, as relevant to their role and setting.


  • Safe, controlled and fuel efficient driving techniques relating to driving the LGV, considering fuel costs and other possible efficiencies, implications of differing vehicle configurations and associated safety issues, including safe access and egress from vehicles and trailers to include prevention of falling from heights
  • Safe use of equipment and machinery (e.g. MHE, vehicle and delivery systems)
  • Vehicle preparation, including vehicle safety checks/inspections, defeat reporting, safety requirements, loading, securing, unloading processes and axle combinations
  • How to protect the vehicle and associated loads, including management of unlawful access to vehicles and loads


  • Drive safely and efficiently (SAFED) on public and private roads, manoeuvre the vehicle in restricted spaces safely and position vehicle fitted equipment (e.g. mobile cranes)
  • Proficiently control vehicle in all traffic situations and weather conditions and show consideration for other drivers
  • Use relevant equipment and machinery safely and efficiently to ensure the safe handling of customer goods, safely open and restrain trailer and vehicle body doors; pay attention to the safe and effective use of equipment and machinery
  • Comply with relevant systems and processes, following instructions and organisational policy in a safe and efficient manner

  • Have the courage to challenge when appropriate
  • Display energy and enthusiasm in the way they go about their role, dealing positively with setbacks when they occur

*The End Point Assessment duration for this Apprenticeship is 3 months
