Apprenticeship Overview

A work based learning programme in first line management aimed at managers, supervisors, and team leaders that have responsibility for managing a team.

This programme is suitable for people wanting to improve their knowledge and skills to enable them to lead and a manage a team that delivers results in line with the company vision, values and corporate social responsibility.


Apprentices will be required to have or achieve level 2 English and maths, prior to taking their end point assessment


  • Understand different leadership styles and the benefits of coaching to improve performance
  • Understand people and team management models and motivation techniques
  • Understand HR systems and legal requirements
  • Understand performance management techniques
  • Understand approaches to customer and stakeholder relationship management, including emotional intelligence and managing conflict
  • Understand different forms of communication and their application. Know how to chair meetings, hold challenging conversations, provide constructive feedback and understand how to raise concerns


  • Understand how organisational strategy is developed
  • Know how to implement operational and team plans and manage resources and approaches to managing change within the team
  • Understand the project life-cycle and roles
  • Understand organisational governance and compliance, and how to deliver value for money
  • Know how to monitor budgets

Progression Routes From This Apprenticeship

  • Level 5 Operations and Departmental Manager
  • Level 6 Chartered Manager Degree
