NETWORK ENGINEER

          DURATION: 24 months

A work based development programme designed for colleagues with responsibility for design, installation, maintenance and support for communication networks within the organisation. Network Engineers can be responsible for maintaining high level operation of communication networks in order to provide maximum performance and availability for users, such as staff, clients, customers and suppliers and will need to understand network configuration, cloud, network administration and monitor-ing tools, and be able to give technical advice and guidance.
DEVELOPING CORE KNOWLEDGE
  • Understands and applies the principles of networking, protocols and associated technologies (specifically this should include the latest published versions of OSI layer model, IP, TCP/IP, routing and switching, WANs, LANs)
  • Understands and applies the applied maths required to be a Network Engineer (e.g. algorithms, data, binary, probability, statistics)
  • Understands the causes and consequences of system failure including load balance and storage protocols and responds appropriately
  • Understands the architecture of a typical business IT system, including hardware, OS, server, virtualisation, middleware and applications
DEVELOPING CORE SKILLS
  • Design simple networks from a well-defined specification and apply appropriate security products and processes
  • Install and configure network components, including switches, routers and firewalls
  • Monitor, test and adjust network systems and performance to meet accepted standards using diagnostic tools, analysers and other equipment
  • Apply diagnostic tools and techniques to identify the causes of network per-formance issues
  • Apply structured approaches to troubleshooting network issues and repair faults in hardware, software products and the network

During the programme any employee doing the qualification must achieve one internationally recognised vendor or professional qualification from the list:

  • CCNA 1 + 2
  • Network +, Juniper JNCIA – Junus
  • MCP Server Virtualisation – Windows Server Hyper V
  • MCP MS Exchange Server, MCP Server 2012
  • Juniper JNCIS – Sec, MCP Windows Administrator
  • Server +, Juniper JNCIS – Ent, Security +
  • CCNA Security, MTA Cloud and Mobility
B-Skill directly delivers the whole standard through a delivery model that best suits the needs of the Employer. This can include 1:1 in the workplace, day release or a blended learning model that includes face-to-face sessions and distant learning via VLE.
This apprenticeship is recognised for entry onto the register of IT technicians confirming SFIA level 3 professional competence and those completing the apprenticeship are eligible to apply for registration.
